Requirements for setting up a student laptop
Setting up a student laptop requires an activated Omnia account, submitting a loan device application in Wilma, and multi-factor authentication. Multi-factor authentication can be enabled during the setup of the student laptop or it can be configured advance for the user account on another device.
Refer to the instructions if needed:
First setup of Windows 11
1. Turn on the laptop. If the laptop does not start, connect the power supply and press the power button.

2. The computer may first ask for the language upon startup.
Select suomi from the list and then click the Jatka suomeksi button. In English this translates to ‘Finnish’ and ‘Continue in Finnish’ button.

3. Next, the computer may ask: Onko tämä oikea maa tai alue? In English this translates to ‘Is this the correct country or region?’.
Select Suomi from the list and click the Kyllä button.

4. Select the keyboard layout. Choose suomi as the keyboard layout. If you use another keyboard layout as well, you can add it in the next step. Continue by clicking the Kyllä button.

5. Skip adding another keyboard layout by clicking the Ohita button. In English, it is the ‘Skip‘ button.

6. Select the network connection you want to use. Choose Omnia-Vierailija if you are at an Omnia location and within the Omnia-Vierailija network coverage area. Check Yhdistä automaattisesti option, and then click the Yhdistä button. In English, this translates to ‘Connect automatically‘ and ‘Connect‘ button.
If you are not within the coverage area of the Omnia-Vierailija network, you can share your internet connection, for example, fromyour own phone.

7. After successfully connecting to the network, click Seuraava. In English, yhdistetty means connected.

8. Enter your Omnia account’s email address in the format username@omnia.fi (replace username with your student number, for example 80001234) and then click the Seuraava button.

9. Enter your password and click the Kirjaudu sisään button. In English this translates to ‘sign in‘ button.

Note! If you set up multi-factor authentication during the student laptop setup, you will see the Lisätietoja tarvitaan window after entering your password. If needed, follow these instructions starting from step two:
In english Lisätietoja tarvitaan translates to ’More information required’.

10. Approve the sign-in request in your Microsoft Authenticator app.

11. The setup for work or school begins. When the Jatka joka tapauksessa button appears, you can click it to proceed to the Windows sign-in screen. In English, this translates to ’Continue anyway’ button. Clicking the button means that the computer will install pre-configured software in the background, and you can log in to Windows. Not all software, such as Microsoft Teams, have been installed yet.
Alternatively, you can wait until the Laitteen valmistelu (device preparation), Laitteen asennus (device installation) and Tilin määritys (account setup) are complete, and then click the Jatka button. At that point, all pre-configured software will be installed.

12. Sign in to Windows with your username (for example, 80001234) and password. In the username field, just enter your the student number. The email suffix @omnia.fi or @edu.omnia.fi is not necessary.
13. The computer is ready for use when the Windows desktop opens. Software for the student laptop are installed from the Company Portal.
First setup of Windows 10
1. Turn on the laptop. If the laptop does not start, connect the power supply and press the power button.

2. The computer may first ask for the language upon startup.
Select suomi from the list and then click the Kyllä button. In English this translates to ‘Finnish’ and ‘Yes’ button.

3. Next, the computer may ask: Onko tämä oikea maa tai alue? In English this translates to ‘Is this the correct country or region?’.
Select Suomi from the list and click the Kyllä button.

4. Select the keyboard layout. Choose suomi as the keyboard layout. If you use another keyboard layout as well, you can add it in the next step. Continue by clicking the Kyllä button.

Service Description
Espoon seudun koulutuskuntayhtymä Omnia, hereinafter referred to as Omnia, offers a laptop for student use if needed, starting from August 1, 2021. The device package includes a laptop, charger, and carrying case. This service description limits the support and services provided by Omnia’s IT support for the device.
Offered Support and Services
- Manufacturing defects
- Battery-related issues
- Display panel defects
- Power supply issues
- Input device issues (touchpad, keyboard)
- Connector issues
Solutions for service requests and issues related to the device’s operating system or software, such as:
- Windows errors
- Installation issues with applications provided by Omnia
- Network problems on Omnia’s campus
Service Limitations
- The service is not offered beyond what is described in the offered support and services section.
- The service is provided to Omnia students.
- Service requests and issues are resolved only during IT support’s operating hours.
- IT support does not offer application usage support.
- No support is provided for the installation or use of personal peripheral devices.
- No support is provided for the use of networks other than Omnia’s.
- The student is responsible for obtaining the necessary training.
Service Usage
The service is intended for Omnia students. During holiday periods, support service hours may be shortened. Deviations from holiday opening hours are announced on the website omnia.fi.
